Following on from the health camps earlier this year, we were delighted to again host Pondicherry Institute of Medical Science (PIM’S) during World Breastfeeding Week for a special community health initiative focused on supporting young mothers and promoting early childhood nutrition. The PIM’s team also provided health check ups for all the family and especially tracked individual students’ well being needs that helps us build an overall well-being and learning plan, especially for those children who need a bit more support.
The camp included two key components:
- General Health camp for students and Community Members:
Doctors conducted general checkups for children and residents of the surrounding villages, offering guidance on health, hygiene, prevention, and encouraging them to receive continued treatment for their health issues.
- Breastfeeding Awareness Session for Young Mothers:
Healthcare professionals led an interactive session on the importance of breastfeeding, safe feeding practices, early initiation, and maternal nutrition. The session created a supportive space for young mothers to ask questions and receive clear, reliable information.
The Thamarai team supported the program by providing space, coordination logistics, and assisting the medical team with their needs. The health camp supports us to build our awareness on the individual needs of each child so that we can respond as effectively as possible to build a nurturing environment for the child to thrive in Thamarai and support parents to do the same at home.
This collaboration strengthened community health awareness and emphasised the importance of supporting families especially during the early years of childhood.
